What is a Shopify theme detector?
A Shopify theme detector checks publicly available storefront information for signals that identify Shopify and theme metadata exposed by the storefront. MerchantFrame separates detecting Shopify from identifying a theme, because a store can use Shopify without publishing identifiable theme details.

What MerchantFrame can detect
Results depend on the public information available for each storefront. MerchantFrame may report the following details without guaranteeing that every field will be present.
Theme or schema name
A supported name that may identify the underlying theme metadata.
Store-reported theme name
A label exposed by the storefront, which may differ from the schema theme name.
Theme schema version
Version information shown only when supported public theme metadata includes it.
Shopify Theme Store ID
A numeric Theme Store identifier when the storefront exposes a supported value.
How MerchantFrame checks public storefront information
MerchantFrame checks publicly available storefront information. It does not require Shopify Admin access, Shopify store credentials, or a private Shopify API connection.
The detector reports only supported Shopify and theme information that can be found in the public storefront response. It does not access private store settings or merchant account data.

Why a Shopify theme may not be identifiable
Exact theme identification may not be possible when the storefront does not expose one supported, unambiguous theme metadata record.

- An identifiable name or version may not be exposed.
- Available metadata may be ambiguous.
- Metadata may be represented in an unsupported form.
MerchantFrame does not classify a theme as custom, official, unofficial, pirated, or modified. A missing result is a limitation of the public evidence, not a classification of the theme.
